Outdoor Activities in Minneapolis If You Don’t Have a Cabin This 4th of July

June 29, 2026 | By Maxine Denis

Let’s be honest.

In the Twin Cities, the 4th of July is basically Cabin Super Bowl. Everyone either has a cabin or has a friend with a cabin. There are chips. There is dip. There is tater tot hot dish even when it’s 100 degrees outside. It’s sacred.

If you’ve got a cabin invite, take it. I’m not here to break up families.

But if you don’t? If you’re stuck in the cities watching Instagram stories of pontoons and sunset beers? I’ve got an idea.

Spend the 4th Doing Something Actually American

You can come to Champion Valley.

Yes, really.

  • Shoot your friends (safely)

  • Grill out in the staging area

  • Throw paint grenades

  • Camp under the stars

  • Keep it rolling with airsoft on Sunday

It’s the 4th. It’s a Saturday. You don’t even need a private booking. Just show up for open play.

Hang out during the day. Play a few rounds. Eat something grilled. High-five someone who just got lit up on the field.

Then book a campsite, start a campfire, and watch the stars instead of someone else’s lake house fireworks.

No Boat? No Problem.

Will this replace your cousin’s best friend’s boat on Lake Minnetonka?

No.

Will it be better than sitting at home pretending you didn’t want to be invited anyway?

Absolutely.

You get:

  • Outdoor adrenaline

  • Built-in competition

  • Room to grill

  • Room to camp

  • And something to actually talk about on Monday

It might not be a pontoon, but it’s a whole lot more interesting than nothing.
